I created this blog to highlight my mother Caren Meek and all of her projects. She is constantly working on something whether it be knitting, crochetting, cooking or sewing. I believe it is physically impossible for her to sit on the couch and watch t.v. without working on a project. She is an amazing woman with many talents.

something old, something new

This quilt is one that mom started 20 odd years ago when SammySister and I were young. She set out to make two of these (and start, she did) with two small girls and a ten year old boy. She finished piecing them together a few years ago and with the help of my WONDERFUL AUNT CONNIE, they were quilted up perfectly and brought back to my mother to bind so we could enjoy them.

Here is mom at the senior center in town for her quilting group. She finished tacking the binding down. She started at the group meeting for a while and then after arriving home, she worked on it all hours of the night and into the morning. Bless her heart. There was no particular rush, but i think she wanted this project to finally be over.
It is beautiful. Thanks to all the hands that touched this so that it could be part of my life.

The Cookie is Baked

Well folks... MOM IS HEALED!
Yesterday, at her ortho appointment, Dr. said she has permission to stop using the leg brace.
The bone is healed up as much as it's going to be.
Now it's on to weight bearing and strengthening the leg bones by using them.
There are a few kinks to work out with her ankle, but she can walk with crutches, so all is looking up.
YAY.

Let's celebrate by taking a look at what mom worked on yesterday and today.

I do believe this will become a baby boy sweater for the christmas bazaar in town.
This quilt will be for our previous bishop who was just released last year. It is one of those signature quilts that mom loves so much. A picture of Mount Si will go in the center because he served in the North Bend Ward and Mount Si is central to town.

Mom showing off her brace-less leg and her warm-up america square afghan that she is putting together as an example to the ladies at the thursday senior center knitting/crochetting group. She's trying to encourage the ladies to work on squares for the afghans to donate to veterans.

its been a while

It's been a while since i updated this, so i thought it necessary to include some of the recent items mom has finished. Like these adorable black bootie shoes she made a while back for the grandbaby/my niece.
We tried these cute socks on Clem and they turned out to be knee highs. AWESOME.

Mom was trying to finish this afghan to donate to the senior center for the fourth of july, but she finished it on the 3rd and told them about it and it turned out too late for a raffle drawing so they're going to wait until veterans day i think. If mom doesnt decide to keep it for herself. red white and blue are her signature colors. Plus, it just looks so perfect on the back of our couch.
And who could pass up this cute pink sweater
(to go with the pink hat that i made for the cute miss clementine mcawesome)

I'll be sure and photograph the rest of the projects mom is working on this week and update you as soon as possible. There is at least one adorable little boy blue sweater and she is working on the pants/leggings to go with.

And the STACKS of afghans to donate to the senior center. Some lucky people are going to be very warm this coming winter with the cute afghans she and the ladies at the knitting/crochetting group at the center have made. along with the countless loom hats and slippers.
til then, have a great one. knit pretty. knit often. love life.
